Shanti anyone?

Shanti. A word that befits a man's music. Music that truly knows peace. Wonderful peace. Music that crosses borders, may they be physical, racial or religious. Here is music which truly brings you to peace. To start the day, to calm your jittery nerves, to forget the temper of your boss, or just to end a stressful day, the music of Oliver Shanti lets you just be.

Oliver setup his recording studio in the northern ranges of India, welcomed various musicians to play and record with him. Although mired with a lot of controversy in his personal life, he continued making music in his serene abode. Releasing close to 25 studio, live and compilation albums, the man has experimented with different traditional styles. From Indian folk to traditional Chinese to spiritual Islamic music, Oliver has understood and spoken the words of the world through his sounds.

His music is such that it cannot just be encompassed in two tracks, though I link only those. His is such a diverse set of music that it needs to be truly heard to be truly felt. A walk on the beach, a drive on an empty road or a cup of tea on a rainy balcony, his is the music for real shanti.

Shine on me you crazy moon..

When you hear the word electronic music, your first thought would be something that would go doosh doosh doosh.. Those mad loud beats playing in the clubs around the world. Never was it connoted to something that made sense. It's not just about the beats you can move your head and your leg to. It's also about sitting at your desk and moving your mind. Welcome to a land where the Moonbeam shines brighter than the sunbeam..

Moonbeam comprises of two Russian brothers, Vital and Pavel Khvalee. They started their musical journey in 2003 and never looked back. Garnering a devout fan following and recognition among their peers, this duo has released 3 studio albums, their last one being ‘The Secret’ in 2011. Their music often termed as “Haunting”, has been released not only on their own Moonbeam Digital Label but various other acclaimed labels such as Black Hole Recordings and Armada Music.

Their music sure can make you move, but it doesn't make you jump. It just makes you flow.. Its peaceful and let's your mind wander. To thoughts afar or close, to people of old or recent. Its a type of music few have come across and few experiment with. Beaty and peaceful were never two words that went together. Moonbeam made it so..

Musing

When do we make our foray into the land of music?
As adults?
As teenagers?
As kids?
Or as toddlers?
From the slightest chime that would bring a smile to our face. To the tone of a mobile phone we'd play with. To the slight beats of soft rock playing on our dads tape. To the metal in our rebellion phase. To the tranquil beats of trance when we search hard for peace. It’s a true journey, which is not meant to end.

Music propels us into an alternate dimension. One where our thoughts are ours, our mind is clear, and our soul is free. From the first twang of a plucked string, to the lucidity of an Indian classical note, I became yours.

I am a muse of music. But when the rhythm starts flowing, aren’t we all?
